Just looking at the product page wasn't enough to provide accurate context, because different sellers labeled the same types of products in different ways.

Compounding the problem: the platform supports billions of live listings. At that volume, even small labeling inconsistencies created downstream risk for search, discovery, and recommendation systems.

The client had been using an annotation tool from a previous vendor, but it fell short of the platform's needs.
